Ex Waitress is a collective of creatives passionate about uplifting small businesses. Our team of full-time members, interns, and freelancers operate from a perspective of mutual respect and collaboration to build social media and marketing that allows smaller brands to take the center stage.
Carissa Duhamel
Owner/Founder
Carissa Duhamel is, in fact, an exwaitress. A decade ago this Mamoun's, BAR, Roia, and Atelier Florian alum traded balancing entree plates for balancing brand presences online. Starting her career in the early days of Instagram, Carissa held past roles as Social Media Director at Box 8 Creative, Social Media Editor at Fine Homebuilding, and Audience Development Strategist at the Taunton Press. In her time as a freelancer and then founder at Ex Waitress, she has amassed hundreds of thousands of followers for small businesses across industries such as hospitality, luxury homebuilding/AEC, aviation, real estate, and corporate sectors.
Jayla Thomas
Intern
Jayla Thomas is a freelance digital marketing consultant and content creator from the New York area. In addition to her long list of previous clients, Jayla has amassed over 100,000 followers on her personal accounts, establishing herself as an influencer in the lifestyle, fashion, and beauty space. She earned her bachelor’s degree in International Business with a Marketing focus from Howard University’s School of Business, graduating Magna Cum Laude and as a member of the School of Business Executive Leadership Honors program. Jayla is also a proud entrepreneur, and sits as the CEO and founder of Thomas Family Taste, a sauce and seasoning company dedicated to celebrating her Caribbean roots and West Indian heritage. A proud initiate of Alpha Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Jayla continues to make significant strides in both her entrepreneurial and digital marketing endeavors to create a lasting legacy and empower young women of color to create the opportunities they want.
